ولد علي الصفار بمدينة القطيف بالسعودية  ويعيش فيها وفي عام ١٩٧٨م حصل على دبلوم معهد التربية الفنية بالرياض ثم حصل عام ١٩٨٦م على دبلوم الكلية المتوسطة بالرياض تخصص تربية فنية وفي عام ٢٠٠٠م  ترأس قسم الفنون بالجمعية العربية السعودية للثقافة والفنون بالدمام ، أسس جماعة الفن التشكيلي بالقطيف وأصبح عضو في العديد من المؤسسات المتخصصة في الفنون من بينها جمعية البحرين ورابطة الآداب والفنون حول العالم في سيئول ، جاءت أول مشاركاته على مستوى المملكة في معرض اقامه معهد التربية الفنية بالرياض ثم انطلقت حتى وصلت إلى أكثر من ٤٠٠ مشاركة محلية ودولية من أبرز محطاتها الرياض وجدة والمدينة المنورة والكويت ودمشق  والقاهرة والإرجنتين حاز على جوائز محلية ودولية من بينها الجائزة الأولى في معرض من وحي البيئة عام ١٩٧٨م  وكذلك الجائزة الأولي مسابقة الخطوط السعودية ملون ١٩٩٤م والجائزة الأولى في معرض الفن السعودي المعاصر ٢٠٠٤م 

 

منذ طفولته وجد الفنان علي الصفار نفسه مولعآ بعوالمه المحيطه به فكان يرسم المشاهد التي تسجل التراث المحلي ويستلهم طقوس اعماله من البيئة ايآ كان شكلها ثم تركزت فيما بعد على متخيلات تتصل بالقيم الإنسانية واحدآ من اشد تجاربه حضورآ  كان في التعاطي مع مكتسبات البحر  الجمالية وطقوس المهن التي تقع في حضرته ، رسم  الصفار الصيادين والمراكب والأطلال وتناثر كتل ركام أخشاب المراكب على الشواطئ بفعل تلاطم الأمواج وعوامل التعرية  وصور البحر كما في حال مدن مهجورة واصبحت صور الغواصين والصيادين ومراكبهم وهي ذاهبة او تدير ظهرها هي الأكثر حضورآ في تجربته الجمالية ، لعبت تقنياته وإختياراته اللونية دورآ في طقوس اعماله التي تضعك امام لون واحد تتباين درجاته وفق صور من المتخيلات المتصاعدة في لحظة زمنية لتترك تأثيرها على المتلقي أينما كان ، عمل الصفار على ممارسات تقنية متعددة من الألوان وتعتبر تجاربه وأعماله  بالألوان المائية الأشَّد رهافة بين طقوسه الجمالية

Ali Al Saffar was born in Qatif in Saudi Arabia and is currently living there. Back in 1978, he obtained a diploma from the Arts Education Institute in Riyadh and from there, he went on to obtain in 1986 a diploma from the Complementary Faculty in Riyadh that specializes in art education. In 2000, he headed the Arts Department at the Saudi Arabian Society for Culture and Arts in Dammam. He founded the Visual Arts Association in Qatif and became a member in several specialized arts institutions, including the Bahrain Arts Society and the International Literature and Arts League in Seoul. His first participation at the Kingdom’s level was in an exhibition held at the Arts Education Institute in Riyadh and he launched his prolific career having participated in more than 400 local and international exhibits, with his most notable contributions taking place in Riyadh, Jeddah, the Holy City, Kuwait, Damascus, Cairo and Argentina. He won awards both locally and internationally including the first prize at an environment-inspired exhibition in 1978, the first prize in the Colored Lines of Saudi Arabia in 1994, and the first prize at the Saudi Contemporary Art Exhibition in 2004. 

 

Ali Al Saffar has, since his childhood, discovered a deep passion for the environment surrounding him. He used to draw scenes that record the local heritage and would get inspiration for his artistic rituals from the environment, no matter its shape. He later on developed his themes according to the imaginings connected to human values. One of his most imposing experiences remains in his connection to the sea’s beautiful bearings and the rituals of the jobs it harbors. Al Saffar drew fishermen, boats, ruins, shipwrecks’ wooden debris on the shore, moved by crashing waves and erosion factors. He shows the sea as a ghost town. The most present pictures in his aesthetic works are those of divers, fishermen and their boats while they leave or while turning their backs to the viewer. His techniques and color choices have played a role in the rituals of his works that put the viewer in front of a single color with contrasting tonalities, with pictures that reflect ascending imaginings set in a specific moment of time, which imprints themselves on the viewer wherever he may be. Al Saffar worked on practicing several color techniques and his experiments and works with watercolors are considered the most sensitive works of his aesthetic rituals.
