ولد الفناّن التشكيلي محمد المنيف عام ١٩٥٢ في مدينة حوطة سدير بالمملكة العربية السعودية. كاتب وناقد سعودي وباحث في الفنون التشكيليّة ويُعتبر من روّاد التأسيس للفن السعودي. حاصل على دبلوم تربية فنيّة من معهد التربية الفنيّة في عام ١٩٧٣، عمل بعدها في التعليم لمدة ٢٥ عاماً. إضافة إلى ذلك، عمل الفناّن كمحرر للفنون التشكيليّة في جريدة الجزيرة منذ عام ١٩٧٦. كما أنّه عضو في عدد من المؤسسات الفنيّة الخاصّة والرسميّة، منها لجنة الفنون التشكيليّة بالجمعيّة العربيّة السعوديّة للثقافة والفنون، والجمعية السعودية للفنون التشكيليّة (جسفت).
تنتمي لوحات المنيف للأسلوب الانطباعيّ التأثيري مصوّراً بساطة البيوت القديمة التراثيّة في القرية ومحيطها، والتغيّرات التي شهدتها من تأثير التطوّر في مختلف أرجاء المملكة. حيث يستكشف الفنّان في لوحاته أنماط البِناء وطبيعة المملكة المتميّزة من النخيل ورمال الصحراء في لوحات الاكريليك النابضة بالحياة.
حاز الفنّان على العديد من الجوائز المرموقة ودروع التكريم من أهمّها وسام مجلس التعاون للمبدعين عام ٢٠١٧ بترشيح من وزارة الثقافة والإعلام، كما تمّ تكريمه كأحد رواد الفن التشكيلي السعودي من مؤسسة مسك للفنون التابعة لمؤسسة ولي العهد الأمير محمد بن سلمان في عام ٢٠١٩.
أقام المنيف عدداً من المعارض الخاصّة كان من أوّلها في عام ١٩٧٤ تزامناً مع تأسيس الجمعيّة السعوديّة للثقافة والفنون، ومنها مؤخراً معرض "شواهد على الفن" لوزارة الثقافة، في مدينة الرياض، المملكة العربية السعودية (٢٠٢١). كما أنّه شارك في العديد من المعارض الجماعيّة المحليّة منذ انطلاقة الفن السعودي مع الرئاسة العامّة لرعاية الشباب في أوّل معارضها في عام ١٩٧٦ بالإضافة إلى مشاركته في الكثير من المعارض الدوليّة في بريطانيا، وفرنسا، وإيطاليا.
تمّ اقتناء أعمال الفنّان من قبل مقتني الفن والمؤسسات الحكوميّة، كما أنّه ساهم في تطوير صالة الأمير فيصل بن فهد للفنون بمعهد العاصمة النموذجي كمشروع مركز للفنون.
Mohammed Al Munif was born in 1952 in the city of Hautat Sudair, Saudi Arabia. He is a Saudi writer, art critic, and a researcher in the arts, in addition, he is considered one of the founding pioneers of Saudi art. The artist holds a Diploma in Art Education from the Institute of Art Education in 1973, and has worked in the field of Education for 25 years. In addition, the artist has worked as editor in the arts for Al-Jazirah Newspaper since 1976. He is also a member of a number of art institutions, including; the Committee of the Saudi Arabian Society for Culture and Arts, and the Saudi Art Association (SAA).
Munif's paintings belong to the impressionist style, depicting the simplicity of the old traditional houses in the Saudi villages and its surroundings. He also portrays the changes those villages have witnessed due to the impact of development occured around the country. In his artworks, the artist explores the different building patterns and the unique nature of the kingdom such as; the palm trees and desert sands creatively with vibrant acrylic colors..
The artist has won many prestigious awards; the Cooperation Council Medal for Innovators in 2017 for the nomination of the Ministry of Culture. He was also honored in 2019 as one of the top pioneers of Saudi Art by the Misk Art Foundation, established by HRH Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz.
Munif has held a number of solo exhibitions; the first of which was in 1974 coinciding with the establishment of the Saudi Society for Culture and Arts, and recently, “Evidence of Art” exhibition by the Ministry of Culture, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia (2021). He has also participated in many group exhibitions locally since the start of Saudi art with the General Presidency for Youth Welfare in its first exhibitions in 1976. In addition, the artist participated in many international exhibitions in the United Kingdom, France, and Italy.
The artist's artworks were acquired by a number of private art collectors and governmental institutions locally and internationally. In addition, he contributed to the development of Prince Faisal bin Fahd Arts Hall in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
