About the Artists
About the Artist: Ibrahim El-Dessouki (b. 1969, Cairo) is a painter and former fine arts professor whose practice spans over three decades, bridging Egypt’s cultural heritage with international artistic traditions. His work combines painterly inquiry with social and political reflections rooted in Egypt’s history.
About the Professor: Kareem Estefan is an Assistant Professor of Film and Screen Studies at the University of Cambridge, where he teaches subjects including Arab cinema, contemporary art, and decolonial theory. He is currently writing a book, Portals to Palestine, on witnessing and worldmaking in Palestinian moving-image art. His writing has appeared in scholarly journals and arts magazines including 4 Columns, Art in America, Frieze, Film Comment, Feminist Media Histories, Journal of Visual Culture, Screen, Third Text, and World Records. Kareem is co-editor of Assuming Boycott: Resistance, Agency, and Cultural Production (OR Books, 2017).
