Dialogue of Forms: by Ahmed Nawar and Faisal Samra

Hafez Gallery announces its first participation in Frieze London, October 2026, with "Dialogue of Forms" a dual-artist presentation pairing Egyptian master Ahmed Nawar with Bahraini–Saudi conceptual pioneer Faisal Samra. Five works stage a conversation between Nawar's monumental black-and-white abstractions and Samra's suspended mixed-media sculptures, exploring memory, embodiment and the persistence of human will.

Ahmed Nawar

Artist

Born in Gharbia, Egypt in 1945, Ahmed Nawar is a prominent artist who's journey, studies, and experiments contributed in swaying the formula of art and influenced the movement in modernism in the region for over 40 years.

 

Graduated from the Faculty of Fine Art, Cairo University (1967), obtained a “Professorship” in Painting from St Fernando Academy-Madrid (1975) and holds the position of Head of the Ministry of Culture, Sector of Fine Arts since 1988, Nawar's figurative injected with geometric sharp shapes, whether in paintings or installations, breaks down the connection between humanity and civilization, provokes the audience's emotions, feelings to act in response of rapid transformation and be part of the change or be the change itself.

Faisal Samra

Artist

Faisal Samra, born in 1955 in Bahrain to a Saudi family, is a pioneering contemporary artist in the Arab Gulf region. Educated at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux‑Arts in Paris, he works across multiple media including painting, sculpture, video, digital photography, installation, and performance art. His work explores themes of identity, existence, cultural tension, and the influence of mass media, often depicting the human figure in thought-provoking ways. Samra has exhibited internationally, with his works held in major museums such as the British Museum, Mathaf in Doha, and the Bahrain National Museum. Widely recognized as a conceptual art pioneer, he continues to influence the contemporary Arab art scene.
